Backsnack Program

Dear Parents/Guardians,

There are children in America that rely on resources such as school lunch to get through the week.  The BackSnack Program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends.  Harvesters brought this program to Oak Grove Primary.

About the BackSnack Program

  • Bags are filled with food that children take home on weekends
  • Food is child-friendly, nonperishable and easily consumed
  • Bags are discreetly distributed to children on the last day before the weekend

The BackSnack Program

The BackSnack Program concept was developed at the Arkansas Rice Depot, after a school nurse asked for help because hungry students were coming to her with stomachaches and dizziness.  The local food bank began to provide the school children with groceries in non-descript backpacks to carry home.

In our community, Harvesters will be donating the food and students will use their own backpacks. Food will begin distribution around October.

If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact Mrs. Shari Howard, Primary counselor (690-8770). If your child participated in this program last year and you would like for him/her to continue this year, please call to confirm. Thank you!

Sincerely,

Oak Grove Primary
